Welcome

Welcome to round two of the AMA newsletter. This month we feature a couple of projects that are using very different kinds of sites as a starting point, and if you're planning a weekend away then check out two places to stay that have been designed by one of Australia's finest architects.

To be honest the idea wasn't to produce this as mailout in any regular format let alone a monthly event. That said there has been a good amount of feeback so 'Version 2' was born.

We realise that not everyone needs to recieve our architectural and design info, so if you want 'out' or this has ended up in your inbox for no reason, then just reply to this mail with the words 'unsubscribe' in the subject line.

Bruce Rickard Houses

One of Australia's most prolific architects, Bruce Rickard has a successful career dating pre-1960's through to the current day where he "continues his own architectural practice in Sydney, in a singularly Australian interpretation of organic architecture." World Architecture: A Critical Mosaic 1900 - 2000 Vol 10 Southeast Asia and Oceania - Neville Quarry

Two of his houses have recently been purchased, renovated and are available for holiday lets.

Figs (Webb House) - Kangaroo Valley

One of NSW best kept secrets, the Kangaroo Valley has been happy to let nearby Berry take a lot of the 'tree change' limelight and weekend traffic. For those in the know this is, and always will be, the perfect getaway.

A small, simple home comprising of one bedroom a studio and open plan living areas.

Sliding timber shutters control sun shading to the windows facing east toward the view, as well as further articulating the facade. Rickard again draws the surrounding landscape into the building.

Treetops - Cottage Point

Located in the tranquil waterfront bushland of Ku-Ring-Gai National Park, Cottage Point contains a grand total of 52 homes.

Arranged as 3 timber framed pavilions, this house again highlights it's beautiful natural surroundings.

The living area pavilion is nestled in amongst the tree tops, offering sensational filtered water views through mature gum trees.

Food For Thought - Bridge House, South Australia

With a small budget and a challenging site, architect, Max Pritchard has realised his clients big dreams while minimising the impact on the environment.

An idyliic country scene, comprised of a creek winding around mature gum and wattle trees might be a great spot to sit and contemplate life - however slightly more challenging to use as a site for a new house. An inspirational project that touches the earth lightly and retains a high level of sustainable features all for a price tag significantly lower than a lot of modern renovations.

Food For Thought - Baumraum, Treehouse

Inspirational, well designed but most importantly fun - this talented German design team have produced some fantastic tree houses equally as appropriate for small kids as for big kids!

This cooperative knows how to keep imagination alive in their homes. Combining architecture, landscape design and “arboriculture,” they create treetop dwellings which integrate beautifully into their forested surroundings, and preserve the integrity of the trees that support them.
