36 Degrees South, Narooma.
Set amongst a backdrop of giant Spotted Gum trees, on a bushland site fronting onto two state forests, on the far south coast of NSW.
Considered positioning and close negotiations with the rural fire service and local Council led to the approval of a 4 bedroom house on this sloping block. Integration of self sufficient systems such as septic tanks, solar hot water and a large 100,000 concrete water tank will enable the day-to-day running of this remote property.
Spotted gum flooring and shiplap cladding are to be produced from trees felled and milled on site.
The timber cladding will be juxtapositioned against Zincalume cladding and roofing, with large eaves overhangs protecting certain areas of timber cladding, while other areas are left to weather and grey, reflecting the colour hues of the surrounding forest.
Recycled timber trusses and plywood lined ceilings keep with the natural material palette, through the open plan living areas.
Skylights, glazed gable ends, and large glazed sliding doors have been designed to maximise filtered sunlight and promote cool breezes.
A slow combustion heater, and a super insulated roof, wall and floor will help regulate temperatures during the colder winter months.
